europe summer 06 - week 2

DAY 14: (evening) Eventually made it to Vilinus, cool city. Also checked out some kayak waterpolo at the nearby Trakai castle.
Day 14 (morning) Stuck at Suwalki train station in Poland for 7 hours. Only two trains a day pass through, noone speaks english, just my soccerball and I. 7 hours. Fun.
DAY 13: On the train(of course) for Vilinus, Lithuania via Warsaw(pictured) for a few hours.
DAY 12: Third day in Krakow, had formed a crew of 2 Irish boys, 3 Mexicans and 3 Aussies. Checked out a giant salt mine; which is pretty much giant caves and tunnels, made of salt. Was a cool for the first 20mins, the tour lasted 3 hours.(not so cool)
DAY 11: Day trip to Auschwitz. Shocking, but a must see if you're in the area
DAY 10: After a mission of a train journey i find myself in Krakow. I love this place. A great atmosphere, not crowded with tourists, (only travellers, like myself) heaps to see and it was dirt cheap.
DAY 9: An 8 hour train ride from Kiel took me to Kaiserslautern for the Aussie's second round match against Italy. We all know the outcome, shattered, but the boys did us proud. Had enough of Germany, caught an overnight train to Krakow, Poland.

DAY 8: Trained up to Kiel, Northern Germany to catch up with a mate i'd worked with in England. Also visited the corn man. (pictured, obviously)

The adventure begins- europe summer 06

DAY 7: Trained it up to Hagen, to visit Saskia, another summer camp champ. Also celebrated in the streets with all the Germans after they knocked Sweden out. Fun times.
DAY 6: Stuttgart. Australia vs. Croatia. After a nailbiting, rollercoaster ride of a match, Harry Kewell nets the most important goal in Australian Football history; sending the roos through to the second round. Absolute magic.
DAY 5: After our extended train ride we ended up in Koblenz visiting out old summer camp mate Chris, the crazy German. Seriously, he is crazy, his chosen sport is the 4 man bobsled and he's driven on the autobahn at 282km/h. He's big.

DAY 4: Camped on random Island 'Gohren' in the very north of Germany. Th etent actually worked better than it looks in that picture. Jumped on a train for Cologne, went 2 hours past our station, just so we could stretch out in the cabin and sleep. We both had train passes and time to burn- no worries.
DAY 3: Overnight train from Munich to Berlin got in at 6am. Whole day to explore the city but didnt do to well, just saw the Reichstag and Berlin wall then spent the rest of the day mucking around at the Adidas world of football.
DAY 2: Game day.Munich. Couldn't find a match ticket anywhere, so opted for the fan fest, where there were 50,000 aussie and brazilian fans- pretty much an outdoor stadium built solely for the unlucky/tiecketless. wicked atmosphere nontheless. Aussie boys went down 2-0.
DAY 1: Flew into milan trained it up to Munich, and met up with another Aussie mate in preparation for the AUS Vs BRAZIL game the following day; stayed with random germans who were hosting visitors for the world cup. (pictured)
